Welcome to the website for the Deerfield High School Class of

UPDATE.   APRIL 17, 2020

Hello to all of our 1970 Classmates!

Your 50th Reunion Committee met on April 15th and, in light of the current situation with COVID-19, we wanted to share our thoughts and plans with you and also seek your input.  As you know and as many of you have registered and RSVP’d for our 50th Reunion celebration in August, we are looking at all of the possible issues surrounding the pandemic and how it may affect our plans.

None of us has a crystal ball and we are all in the same boat, mostly staying at home waiting this out and trying to stay healthy in the meantime.  Unfortunately, we are ALL at that age of the greatest risk of this thing so it makes sense that we do everything we can to avoid situations that might put our health or the health of our loved ones at risk.

The committee has decided to do several things.

First, we are continuing to locate and make contact with our classmates.

Second, we have decided to eliminate the price increase for the reunion from $100 to $125 after April 30th.  We had hoped that this would encourage people to sign up early so we could get a handle on the numbers, but in light of the pandemic, this just doesn’t make any sense as our plans are fluid.

Third, we have decided to wait until June 15th to make a final determination as to whether to continue ahead with plans for the event or to postpone it to a future date.  We have a meeting scheduled for that day to make this determination.

Fourth, we would like to solicit YOUR input as to your personal comfort level in attending the scheduled event and if you would like to postpone it to a later date, what time frame would you prefer?  If August is going to be problematic from a health and safety standpoint, would you prefer a Spring, 2021 time frame or a late summer, early fall 2021 time frame?

Fifth, we can do any number of options concerning the reservations people have already made.  We can refund it in full, or we can hold it in our Class of 1970 account to apply to the event when it it is ultimately held.  This will be completely up to you.  You just need to let us know.

In any case, we will advise you by June 16th what the decision of the committee is.  Our primary concern is the health and safety of all of our classmates and friends who will be attending.  With all of the major events being cancelled or postponed this summer, it should be no surprise that we are seriously considering a change in dates.  Please use either the Facebook page or the comment feature of the website to let us know how you feel and what your preferences would be for a future event if that becomes the reality.

Thanks for your patience and support as we all work through this difficult and complicated situation in all of our lives right now!  Stay healthy and keep in touch with us if you change your contact information so we may be able to communicate with you as time goes by!

Your Class of 1970 Reunion Committee

UPDATE  as of March 26, 2020

The committee is fully aware of the all of the changes occurring around us as the country and planet deals with the COVID-19 virus.
We still have five full months before our event and while we certainly have no crystal ball, we are hopeful that the situation might be different in five months and we can proceed with our plans.  We plan on meeting on June 1st and reassessing where the world is and if we can still hold our reunion.   Please watch this site for updates and we still highly encourage you to sign up now if you wish to attend as our space is limited to 180.  Presently we have 66 classmates registered.  If the event can't be held for whatever reason, we will refund everyone's money.  Our Treasurer has it all in a secure bank account and we will make sure everyone is fully taken care of if that is the decision.  In the meantime, stay healthy and enjoy this time of closeness with your loved ones!

Steve and Rick

As you know, our 50th Reunion is fast approaching and this site will give you all of the information you need to plan your attendance!

Cruise the site.  There are pictures, a "memorial" page to honor those classmates who are no longer with us, a forum you can communicate with fellow classmates, a page where you can sign up and pay for the weekend, and much more!

To begin, go to the "Classmates" tab on the left and click on it.  There you will find a link to create a "profile".  Complete all of the sections which are "starred" and you will then have full access to the rest of the site.

If you have any problems getting signed on, please contact Steve at and I can help you navigate the process.

The Reunion Committee met on Sunday evening, February 23,  2019, and reviewed plans for the 50th reunion coming up next August 28th and 29th.   We have had 62 of our classmates register on the website and over 60 have already sent in their reservations for the event and made hotel reservations with the Marriott Suites.  We sent out an e-mail to all those classmates for which we had e-mail addresses and received a number of positive responses.

We will be mailing out a postcard in the coming days which will attempt to reach those classmates we have not located through social media.
We encourage everyone to reach out to those classmates who might be on your personal e-mail or mail distribution lists and let them know the address of the website or the Facebook site.
We discussed the format of the Saturday evening function and wanted to emphasize that it will be CASUAL attire and there will be NO sit-down dinner.  There will be a number of casual “food stations” set up with a number of different offerings for food and drink.  The bar will be a cash bar and if we end up having background music at all, it will be an I Pad playing "60s" and “70s” selections so that people may concentrate on personal conversations and catching up with old friends.  Due to the size of the venue we are limited to 180 attendees.  As a reference point, we had 180 classmates attend our 40th reunion in 2010.  We have contacted a photographer who will take a group photo, which will be available for purchase if you desire, and who will also take individual photos if you desire.
We all want this to be a relaxed and informal evening where we can all have fun and enjoy each other’s company rather than a big formal event.  That is the feedback we have gotten from those who have contacted us so far and we want to make this a special evening to rekindle relationships and allow old friends to re-connect.
So, to summarize:
When:  August 28th and 29th, 2020
Where:  There will be a Friday night very informal event at the Slyce Coal Fired Pizza - 254 Green Bay Road in Highwood, IL from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  We are just asking for a $5 donation to cover gratuities for the waitstaff and bar tenders.  All food and drink will be on a cash basis.

The main event will be held at the Marriott Hotel and Suites, 2 Parkway North, Deerfield, IL  60015
Cost:  The event fee is a flat $100 if you make your reservation by April 30th, 2020.  After that date the fee will be $125.

THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!  We are space limited to 180 participants, so please reserve at your earliest convenience if you want to attend!  You may pay on the website by clicking on the link that says “Buy Tickets”.  If you would like to save the $7 processing fee collected by the site, you may send your check for $100 directly to our class Treasurer, Wayne Spath, Class of 1970, 19 Clover Lane, Lake Bluff, IL 60044

On Saturday, during the day there will be a tour of Deerfield High School.  We have not yet determined the time but will let everyone know well in advance once the time is established.
Hotel:  The Marriott Suites has given us a special rate of $109 per night for our event.  This price includes wi-fi and a full hot breakfast each morning.  You should contact the hotel directly to make reservations.  The number is 847-405-9666 and tell them you are with the DHS Class of 1970.
Make your reservations early so you don’t miss out.  This is going to be a very fun and relaxed event and we would like to see as many of our classmates as possible!  If you have any suggestions or comments please leave a message on the website or on the Facebook page and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
